3D printing in general surgery: the next step in customizing procedures in Pakistan

Abstract

The technology of 3D (three-dimensional) printing has become a revolution in the field of modern medicine, and especially in general surgery, as it allows customized, accurate, and premeditated interventions. 3D printing enables the professionals to practice complicated surgical interventions, decrease the level of uncertainty during the operation, and improve surgical precision and outcomes. Moreover, the introduction of 3D bioprinting, biofabrication, and the combination of the two has been opening the path to regenerative and reconstructive expediency, transforming the surgical scene. The Editorial presents the changing place of 3D printing in general surgery, its use in the preoperative phase, intraoperative navigation, education, and the production of implants, issues, and future opportunities to advance to a state of personalized care of the patient.
